Date: 10th of December 2010
The 4th edition of the DME Award was held in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon. The DME Award Ceremony took place as a central event in the Innovation Festival “IF… Lisboa”. Simultaneously, the internally acclaimed Architecture Triennial took place, setting an energetic and stimulating atmosphere for the DME Award Ceremony 2010.
On the 10th of December the DME Award Winners and Honourable Mentions were proudly presented. The award ceremony took place in an intimate setting in Lisbon’s Museum of Fashion and Design (MUDE). Amongst the speakers were the Portuguese minister of Economy Mr. Vieira da Silva, the director of the Portuguese Design Centre Henrique Cayatte, the director of MUDE Bárbara Coutinho and alderman of municipality Lisbon Catarina Vaz Pinto.
The selected DME Award 2010 Winners and Honourable Mentions greatly reflected innovative and effective Design Management strategies in Europe, in which design plays a key role in their business strategies. They represented a variety of sectors and demonstrate how strategically managed design can help in differentiating a brand and developing successful products and services.
Barbara Cruz (European Design Centre, DME Award Ceremony 2010 presenter, DME Award Secretary)
“Most design awards focus on the designers or the product itself. The DME Award pays attention to the strategy and management behind the design. It gives recognition to the entire company and its management team. Recent studies show that only 10 percent of all companies across Europe use design. The DME Award winners belong to the top of that percentage. They not only show their will to use design, but they also stand out when it comes to management skills. The whole company is involved in the process and they look at design as a strategic and differentiating asset.”
